The Old Almondburians
Corridor outside Headmaster’s study
It's still the same corridor that R I Sykes drew 60 years ago (inset) but the old school desk and coathangers have now gone and the decor - complete with heraldic lions and fleurs de lys - is, shall we say, a little more adventurous than it used to be. And a new door has appeared, to shield the staff and pupils from the cold draughts that used to sweep through the building during a harsh winter.

The corridor was formed by reducing the size of the Schoolroom during the 1848 building works, an action that caused some controversy at the time.
