News from the School
The academic year started with the wonderful news that our GCSE results were the best in the history of the school. Over 71% of the students achieved 5 A* - C grades which easily beat our previous record of 60% set in 2004. A number of other records were also set: n 66% of all examinations taken were awarded a grade C or better n39% of the students achieved 10 or more passes at A* - C n 69% of the boys achieved 5A* - C passes. The remarkable thing about this is that it was actually almost 10% better than predicted. In addition we entered some students from Years 10 and 9 for GCSE’s. Their results were equally remarkable: n 91 Year 10 students were entered for GCSE Statistics. Every student passed and 66 of them gained a grade C or better. n29 Year 9 students were entered for GCSE Statistics. 27 achieved Grade C, the highest grade available at the level of entry. n129 Year 10 students were entered for the GCSE Short Course in RE and half achieved a Grade C or better. These remarkable GCSE results meant that it was the second time in a matter of months that we were celebrating, as our KS3 results were also excellent. The number of our students who achieved at least level 5 in Mathematics and Science were the best in the history of the School. We now aim to build on these successes and produce equally stunning GCSE results in 2008, the year we celebrate the 400th anniversary of the school being granted a royal charter from King James. Our results over the last three years have been extremely encouraging. They confirm what we all know - King James’s is an excellent school. We provide our students with a variety of opportunities and they leave us with the skills, qualities and qualifications that they need to make a success of their lives. It is therefore no surprise that we are becoming increasingly popular. In order to meet the demand, the Governors submitted a successful bid to increase the intake from 160 per year group. From September an extra 20 students will be able to gain places at King James’s School. They will benefit from the excellent education that we provide. They will join a forward looking school which is going from strength to strength. A school, which in the near future, will achieve its aim of becoming the best in Kirklees. Finally I would like to thank you all for the wonderful support you give to the school. We are already a very good school and with your continued support we can make it even better. Floreat schola!
